Support a National Strategy on Brain Injury: Advocacy Resources Now Available

by

Brain Injury Canada has created advocacy resources to help individuals and organizations contact their Member of Parliament (MP) and show their support for Bill C-206: An Act to establish a National Strategy on Brain Injuries.

Whether you’re living with a brain injury, supporting a loved one, working in healthcare, or advocating within your community, these templates make it simple to raise your voice and encourage federal action on an issue that affects millions of Canadians.

Why a National Strategy Matters

Brain injury is one of Canada’s leading causes of disability, yet access to services, rehabilitation, and long-term supports can vary significantly depending on where someone lives. A National Strategy on Brain Injury would help create a more coordinated approach to prevention, research, care, and community supports across the country.

The proposed strategy would help:

  • Improve data collection to better understand the prevalence and impact of brain injury.
  • Increase education and awareness for healthcare providers and the public.
  • Support dedicated brain injury research across the lifespan.
  • Address the links between brain injury and mental health, housing instability, substance use, and involvement with the justice system.
  • Strengthen prevention initiatives and public education.
  • Ensure the voices of people with lived experience help shape future policies and services.
  • Reduce stigma and improve access to accommodations and supports.

How You Can Help

Brain Injury Canada has developed customizable advocacy templates that you can personalize and send directly to your MP.

You can also:

  • Request a meeting with your MP to discuss why a National Strategy on Brain Injury is needed.
  • Share information about Bill C-206 with your community, colleagues, friends, and family.
  • Help raise awareness by starting conversations online or in your local community.

Not sure who your MP is? You can find them by searching your postal code on the House of Commons website.

Brain Injury Canada has created template letters for Individuals and for Organizations to help you get started.

Every voice helps build awareness and demonstrates the need for coordinated, equitable brain injury care across Canada. By taking a few minutes to contact your MP, you can help support meaningful change for individuals and families affected by brain injury.
